It came with no software or manuals. It took many hours before I could make it work.
We bought this to use in a small business environment, and it does exactly what we needed it to do. We use it for scanning large documents (400+ pages) and this scanner handles them easily. It also creates.pdf documents that are much smaller in file size than the scanner I was using on an all-in-one device. The document feeder does miss every now and then, but that occasional hassle is well worth it for us.
I am extremely satisfied with the performance of this product. I bought this unit refurbished for $65 to scan all my important documents from my file cabinet. The automatic document feeder works flawlessly, even on two sided documents. I downloaded the driver software from the HP website. After some initial glitches, I read the manual and figured out how to set the various options I needed. This was an excellent investment.Update: I just scanned 250 photos using the automatic document feeder and experienced NO jams. This scanner has already paid for itself in time savings.Orlando, FL
I'm a Mac user & accustomed to well-designed products. Don't buy this product for scanning slides or film strips - the software crashes regularly, it takes forever to initialize, I often get an error message saying that the HP Scan software is "unstable" and should be restarted. This scanner is slow & almost useless unless you just want to scan text documents, & I paid top $$ for it 3 years ago. Sometimes you don't get the option to select slides in the file menu so it just scans the entire scanner glass. It's OK with documents. Just started using it for slides. Wish I'd known this before I bought it.
Ok - I have owned and used this scanner for several years and I paid over $550 for it. It worked ok for a while but its images are not that sharp and color is poor. The ADF does work well, but scans from the flatbed are worse than a cheap all-in-one.The software is horrid and after later downloading the Twain drivers from HP it performs marginal scanning to Adobe.Overall I have vowed never to own another HP product as they are not as well designed nor built as my old HP 41C calculator. I can not count how many of their poor printers I have thrown away.If you are looking for real quality and can aford it go with Xerox.
